🎨Painting with 🌈Colored Vinegar on Baking Soda Science Experiment 🔬 💡⚖️ 101 🎥 Series 🎇
07/14/2017
Today, we are continuing our Science 🔬 💡⚖️ 101 🎥 Series 🎇 with this super fun painting with colored vinegar on baking soda experiment.
What you will need:
- a tray with baking soda,
- colored vinegar (we are using this mini measuring beaker set),
- different droppers,
- science glasses (buy pink here and blue here).
Baking Soda/solid (NaHCO3) + Vinegar/liquid (HC2H3O2) → Carbon Dioxide/gas (CO2) + Water/liquid (H2O) + → NaC2H3O2
Science mystery💡 revealed: Baking soda and vinegar react with each other because of an acid-base reaction. Baking soda is a base while vinegar is an acid. When they react with each other because of atom exchange, they form carbonic acid which is very unstable. Carbonic acid instantly breaks apart into water and carbon dioxide, the latter of which is a gas responsible for all the fizzing as gas escapes the solution. This ⚗️chemical reaction releases gas because when baking soda receives proton from vinegar, it transforms into water and carbon dioxide molecule which since now is free of its other chemical bonds, can escape, bubbling forth as a gas.
