🌋 Erupting Volcano Science Experiment 🔬 💡⚖️ 101 🎥 Series 🎇

Children have been fascinated with volcanoes lately. So, we have been reading a lot of books about volcanoes, and it seems that scientists are still learning what causes volcanoes to erupt, without being able to predict exactly when would the next volcano blow its top or split its sides. But there are three things we know for sure: volcanoes are beautiful, they are dangerous, and they are the nature's incredible 💥 fireworks!

So, today, we are conducting an erupting 🌋 volcano science experiment. 

What you will need:

• vinegar,
• red and yellow food coloring,
• baking soda,
• short beaker,
• recycled paper towel cardboard,
• modeling clay,
• marbles, stones, tree bark and moss,
• a tray.

Pour baking soda into the beaker half-full & insert paper towel cardboard into the beaker. 
Color the vinegar with red food coloring, and yellow (to make orange lava).
Mold the clay around the cardboard shaping the volcano & leave the top open so that magma can escape freely.   We decorated the sides of the volcano with colored marbles, tree bark and moss.

This baking soda and vinegar chemistry project is a fun way to stimulate a real volcanic eruption! Children would take turns pouring red and yellow vinegar into the beaker which has baking soda in it, causing a chemical reaction, which produces orange bubbling "lava."

Baking soda  + vinegar → carbon dioxide + water + sodium ion + acetate ion. 

 Carbon dioxide gas is responsible for the fizzing and bubbling during the "eruption." Since there is not enough room in the beaker for the carbon dioxide to spread out, the gas leaves through the cardboard tube's opening quickly, causing an 🌋 eruption! The more baking soda and vinegar you have poured, the bigger the eruption would be.  The chemicals are non-toxic, making this project a good choice for scientists of all ages.
