✍🏻️Writing Down Solved Equation (Montessori 🔢 Math 🎥 Lesson)
05/06/2017
Adrian started legibly writing letters at around three years of age (see a post "Writing his own name at 37 months" here), but numbers for some reason are harder for him to trace. So, he practices daily in his numbers workbook (buy here), and he also likes to refer to 1 2 3 Count with Me book (buy here), where by running his finger along large grooved numbers, he learns proper number tracing. (For more on Number Extensions, read a post here).
I am very pleased the KUMON workbooks, which we have for tracing numbers (buy here), uppercase letters (buy here) and lower case letters (buy here). Kumon workbooks are based on the "Kumon Method" which introduces learning concepts in an incremental, step-by-step approach, allowing children to master new skills easily and without anxiety or frustration.
After solving a simple equation using a traditional Montessori material: ➕Addition Strip Board (see a 🎥 video of Adrian working with it here), Adrian wrote down solved equation on his work-sheet. (You may download this Math Addition work-sheet for your personal use here.)
Although writing these numbers might appear as easy, it took time and patience for Adrian to learn to consistently trace these numbers correctly. For example, in a number ten: zero is written starting from the top - counter-clock, which was counterintuitive to Adrian. However, through daily writing practices in his KUMON workbooks, I can definitely see Adrian gaining confidence in his abilities, and his motivation is proven by his daily desires to write!
