3rd (of 6) Phonetical Order Set: b f o g (Montessori 🔤 Language)

In a Montessori language curriculum, alphabet letters are not  first presented to a child in an alphabetical order like A, B, C, D etc. The idea is to introduce the letters phonetically (the way they sound) rather than by their name, and phonetical grouping of certain consonants and vowels is proven to be very effective in allowing children to form quickly as many words as possible.

There are few phonetical grouping orders suggested, and we are following the order suggested in How to Raise an Amazing Child the Montessori Way by Tim Seldin (buy the book here - a Montessori -beginner must have book.)

In this introductory post "Montessori Phonetical Order of presenting ABCs Alphabet letters" we have replicated the order using wooden PlanToys letters, Waldorf cards, and our animal figurines.

Today, we are working with the third set:    b  f  o  g.  DSC_0004Introduce each alphabet letter's sound and its corresponding language objects.
DSC_0004"b" is for bear, basket with bananas, & a badger
DSC_0004"f" is for fan, frog, & a fox.
DSC_0004"o" is for orca, olive, & an octopus
DSC_0004"g" is for a goat, gift, & a gorilla.

You may then present a 3🅿️🌠 Three Period Lesson (details here) to a child with all four letters.

1st 🅿️    This is  __   b... f,o,g.

2nd 🅿️     Show me __    b... f,o,g.

2nd 🅿️     What sound does this letter make? (While pointing to letter b... f,o,g.)

Then, mix all the letters up and ask the child to choose objects for each letter which begin with that sound. Basically, you are asking the child to group the language objects by their initial sound (just like in the first picture of this post).  I bought our "small" language objects here, which is a whole starter set, or you can purchase them individually for as little as 35 cents each.

First set: c  m  a  t     (read here).

Second set: s  r  i  p   (read here).
