CAN YOU FIND A PAIR? Toddler Mystery Bag presentation

Today, we are trying the (4)th option: CAN YOU FIND A PAIR? from a Montessori Mystery Bag post. Usually, this activity is presented to an older child with Montessori paired geometric solids, but today, we are using pairs of similar items, with which Adrian is familiar, and ask him to find a matching pair utilizing solely the sense of touch.

Adrian then takes the blindfold off to see if he was correct.

The pairs are (from the left to the right):

  • Giant Turtle and Sea turtle (we love Schleich animals - all are hand painted, highly detailed and scaled proportionally to other Schleich animals)
  • 2 sea shells (from Indonesia)
  • 2 ceramic spoons
  • 2 wooden dolls
  • 2 horses
  • 2 cones
  • 2 Brio cars
  • 2 cubes
  • 2 wooden giraffes

Mystery bag is such a fun and exciting way to promote language and refine stereognostic sense! And you can vary the contents based on the child's growing interests. Also, the less familiar the objects are, the harder it will be for a child to identify them.

How do you present the Mystery bag to your child?
